Abstract
A survey was undertaken to assess the condition of dairying in industrial areas of Karur districts, Tamil Nadu, India. A total of 32 farmers were selected randomly in two industrial areas of Karur district, which covered around 134 dairy animals. The data were collected personally by using well structured pre tested questionnaire from the dairy farmers through open ended questions. All the farmers (100%) had agriculture as the primary occupation along with dairying. Based on the land holdings 43.75, 31.25 and 25.00 per cent farmers were large, small and marginal farmers respectively. The average wet land holding was 7.87 acres and 0.75 acre was dry land holding. The red loamy and laterite soil (37.5%) were equally predominant in Karur district. Literate farmers were 68.75 percent and all the farmers (100 per cent) were income generator and none of the farmers were dependant.
