Abstract
Undoubtedly, education is the pedestal of progress and also a source of employments which decrease the gender inequality in society and increase the standard of living. It is compulsory for people of a nation for defense from unawareness and backwardness. So the significance of education has been continuously increasing yet it varies at different stages. The present study has been carried out to access the literacy and gender gap in learning of rural scheduled caste population in state of Haryana on the basis of secondary data obtained from Primary Census Abstract, Haryana, 2001 and 2011. The gender disparity of literacy has been calculated by using modified (Kundu and Rao, 1986) Sopher’s disparity index. The inter-district analysis reveals a wide variance between male-female literacy rates of scheduled caste rural population in the state and male literacy is found higher as compared to female because women learning is restricted by less awareness and accessibility to educational chances as well as a number of baseless social fences or impediments. So there is a need of intensive as well as widespread preparation with effective implementation to make assure to people about long term reimbursement education.
