THE NEED OF GUIDANCE OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN RELATION TO THEIR TYPE OF INSTITUTION

Abstract

Guidance means advising, supporting and helping students in making the best possible adjustment to the situations in the educational institutions and in certain aspect of their life. It also aids development of all aspects of the personality. The present study is an attempt to assess the guidance needs of high school students of Haldwani block, Uttarakhand across type of institution (on the basis of government and private schools). A descriptive research design was used in this study and random sampling technique was used to collect the data. A sample of 120 high school students consisting 60 from government schools and 60 from private school were collected. Socio-demographic profile of respondents was studied using self-structured performa and their guidance needs was assessed using Guidance Needs Inventory by J.S.Grewal. Results revealed that government school students need more guidance compared to private school though the difference was not significant across type of institution.
