ARTIFICIAL GROUNDWATER RECHARGE SITE SELECTION OF MARU RIVER SUB BASIN, CENTRAL INDIA

B.S. Manjare

Department of Geology RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur, Maharashtra (India)
Abstract

Artificial groundwater recharge has the benefits that they can produce water that is good and safe for domestic use, without requiring extensive provisions for water treatment. The purpose of this study is to provide plan to structural engineers
with practical information to assess the potential for application of artificial groundwater recharge in rural water supply projects in the country like India. In the study area the aquifer are classified in the two category i.e. phreatic (upper)
aquifer and the confined (lower) aquifers. The site selection criteria is based on the Infiltration capacities of the sediments, Type of the aquifer, The fractures along study area and Slope in the study area. After site selection the study area have
been classified in to good suitable, low to moderate suitable, moderate suitable, not suitable and very good suitable. The area near Morshi and Hiwarked are most suitable for the artificial recharging and the area near Matudhana is not suitable
for the artificial recharging. Artificial recharge with the suitable planning and supervision of ground water can come over the drought and related disaster.
