Abstract
A study was conducted to study the existing patterns of floor and roof of dairy animal house in the four agro-climatic regions of Tamil Nadu viz. North Eastern zone, North Western zone, Western zone, and Hilly zone. Initially a survey was conducted in the four selected agro-climatic regions of Tamil Nadu with a pre-structured interview schedule for identifying the present dairy cattle housing patterns, production and management measures. The average number of animals per farm was 6.34, 7.62, 8.60 and 2.48 and the average milk production per farm was 45.35, 55.00, 71.07 and 27.35 litres per day in North Eastern, North Western, Western and Hilly zones respectively. The average milk production per animal was 6.83, 8.55, 7.52 and 11.15 litres per day. The average floor space per animal was found to be 7.16, 6.53, 5.58 and 7.66 m2 per animal in North Eastern, North Western, Western and Hilly zones respectively. The floor space was found to be sufficient in 86.3, 97.1, 84.2 and 96.7 per cent and ventilation was found to be sufficient in 89.9, 92.9, 86.8 and 13.3 per cent of the sheds in North Eastern, North Western, Western and Hilly zones respectively.
