Problem of Eve-teasing among Rural Women in Haryana

Abstract

Study was conducted on 200 respondents in the villages of Karnal and Sirsa districts of Haryana State. Study analyzed the nature and extent of problem of eve-teasing and factor affecting it. Public transport and bus-stand were the major places reported for eve-teasing. Those who faced eve-teasing, overwhelming majority of respondents felt angry (93.02%), helpless (72.09%), scared (60.46%) and humiliated (58.13) at the time of eve-teasing. Inspite of that overwhelming majority (81.39%) remained silent. Awareness about the various punishments related to eve-teasing was lacking among majority of respondents. Multiple factors were found associated with the practice of eve-teasing.
