Abstract
The Trans-Giri region in District Sirmour, Himachal Pradesh, is a distinctive area marked by its rugged terrain and deep-rooted cultural traditions. This study delves into the spatial dynamics and socio-cultural aspects of rural life, focusing on settlement patterns, caste hierarchies, livelihood practices, and their interrelation with the region’s physical environment. By utilizing both qualitative methods, such as interviews and field observations, and the research examines how geographical factors, such as topography and accessibility, shape the social and economic organization of rural communities. The study highlights the influence of the caste system on resource distribution and social interactions. The findings emphasize the need for context-sensitive development strategies that prioritize ecological sustainability while preserving the region’s cultural identity and addressing socio-economic disparities.
