STRATEGIES OF SPOUSES FOR MARITAL SATISFACTION: A QUALITATIVE STUDY IN WOLDIA TOWN, ETHIOPIA

Abstract

Albeit marriage is a foundation of each society, its form and the strategies spouses have used to improve their marital quality are not identical across societies. Thus, this study focused on assessing the strategies of spouses for marital satisfaction in Woldia Town, Northeast Ethiopia. To achieve this objective, qualitative research approach with phenomenology design was employed. Hence, using purposive sampling, the qualitative data were collected from 22 married couples. The collected data analyzed thematically. Eventually, the findings of the study revealed that the strategies spouses have used were communicating openly, spirituality, acknowledging imperfection, positive perception, appreciation, fostering unity and equality, and exchanging gift s. The study concludes that attention should be given to the attainment of marital satisfaction that base for the foundation of the well-functioning individuals, family and country at large. The study also implies the potential areas of policy implementation, social work practice, and areas of research. Therefore, the study can have a conclusive role in providing inputs for social workers and any other concerned bodies to enhance marital satisfaction through preventing challenges.
