Abstract

Professional Social Work has the primary duty to enhance the wellbeing of people, especially those who are poor, oppressed, marginalised and the downtrodden. In order to achieve this goal, socio- economic justice should be maintained in the society. PIL is a better legal provision in the armoury of the Professional Social Workers to fight against the above said Social evils. Especially in the Indian context this can be used for uplifting the poor and the downtrodden and empowerment of the weaker sections of the society. To analyse the role of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in Social work practice, we have to understand both aspects from its basic level. This study is an attempt to find out, the role of PIL in social work practice.
